Overall Objective/Purpose:

The overall responsibility of the Facilities Electrician is to inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electrical equipment located within the Power Substation (PSS) and equipment within the WVSTP.

 

Essential Job Functions and Task:

Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Install/Repair/Maintain/Troubleshoot Equipment
  • Maintain and operate, test, and troubleshoot substation equipment (generator wiring, control equipment, battery banks, plant wiring, including power and control circuits)
  • Maintain and repair oil, vacuum, gas, and air circuit breakers.
  • Maintain battery systems.
  • Repair and replace tap charger components on all power transformers.
  • Wire control panels, breakers, circuit switchers, battery chargers, battery banks, AC-DC supply panels, and high voltage Potential and Current transformers.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain control equipment, batteries, capacitor banks, and lighting.
  • Perform electrical testing as follows: low voltage power distribution units, transformers, turns ratio, transformer combustible gas, transformer oil gas analysis, oil dielectric ground resistance, phasing, battery, capacitor testing, and interfacial tension oil testing.
  • Investigate alarms coming from the equipment.
  • Arrange for company-related scheduled outages.
  • Perform all system switching and grounding work as required, as well as all switching necessary for maintenance work.
  • Switch, test, ground, and tag out high voltage equipment.
  • Verify and determine station conditions for switching.
  • Knowledge of electrical codes for piping and wiring.
  • Perform periodic IR scans on switchgear and transformers.
  • Work tasks must be performed in accordance with government code and requirements.
  • Operate and troubleshoot the power supply systems, including high voltage electrical switchgear, electrical transformers, and emergency power generator to operate, manage and ensure a reliable power supply system for the PSS and Fab buildings
  • Ensures electrical systems complies with electrical codes
  • Test electrical systems to ensure proper installation and operation
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Current state licensed journeyman electrician
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • CASE (Construction & Skilled Trades – Electrician) is desirable.
  • Qualified and authorized in high voltage switching.
  • At least 5+ years of experience managing and working with medium to high voltage electrical distribution gear and electrical systems. 
  • Professional knowledge of electrical concepts, principles, and practices.
  • Formally trained in NFPA 70E – Arc Flash Hazards Safety Requirements.
  • Ability to read blueprints CAD drawings.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
  • Proficient in the use of test meters and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The employee may be required to work outside normal working hours, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • On-call during off-hours for emergency situations.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to see color to discern color-coded wiring.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders or scaffolding.
