Overall Objective/Purpose:

The Facilities Technician is responsible for programming, maintenance, repairs, and support of all aspects of the facilities and associated equipment in accordance with safety, quality, and productivity requirements. The Facilities Technician plans and performs maintenance activities, facilities, and equipment project work including demolition and installation assemble and rebuilding electrical, mechanical, and plumbing equipment within the level of training to maintain a safe and productive working environment.

 

Essential Job Functions and Task:

Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks in accordance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, or equipment specifications.
  • Uses tests and diagnostic equipment to perform checkouts. Rebuilds facilities, finishing, and production equipment as required. May perform equipment modifications as directed by senior facilities staff.
  • Performs electrical, mechanical, and plumbing troubleshooting to determine problems in non-functioning equipment.
  • Assists production and engineering personnel to resolve process and equipment performance issues.
  • Dismantles, adjusts, repairs, and assembles equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, operating or repair manuals, rough sketches, or drawings.
  • Uses tests and diagnostic equipment to perform checkouts. Rebuilds facilities equipment as required. May perform equipment modifications as directed by senior facilities staff.

  • Clean and maintain equipment following standard operating procedures including confined space procedures.
  • Contact vendors and contractors, acquire bids, escort, and work with contractors as directed by senior facilities staff.
  • Recognize, evaluate and recommend controls for conditions or processes which could negatively affect safety, quality, productivity, or the environment.
  • Recommends measures to improve maintenance methods, equipment performance, equipment selection, and quality of work.
  • Suggests changes in work conditions and use of equipment to increase the efficiency of the shop, department, or work crew.
  • Maintains knowledge and skillset regarding building systems and equipment. Attends training as instructed.
  • Communicate effectively and build relationships with all levels of the organization.
  • Operate common computer software including email and calendar as instructed.
  • Keeping daily logs and records of all maintenance functions.
  • Performs, supports, and sustains 5S initiatives within the department and throughout the facility.
  • Point of contact for emergencies and on-call as directed by senior facilities staff.
  • Performs and maintains an inventory of replacement parts, dealing with vendors to locate parts to keep equipment running and to maintain production schedules.
  • After appropriate training, set up and operate machine tools such as lathe, grinder, drill, and milling machine to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures, and tools.
  • Operates hand and power tools.
  • After appropriate training, operate cutting torch and/or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
  • Performs work in a safe manner, including using the Lockout-Tagout procedures. Promotes and supports the maintenance of a safe, efficient, and effective work environment.

 

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years of experience in facilities/maintenance
  • Ability to read blueprints CAD drawings.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
  • Proficient in the use of test meters and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The employee may be required to work outside normal working hours, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • On-call during off-hours for emergency situations.


Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to see color to discern color-coded wiring.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders or scaffolding.
